강연자 소개

Kwang Ok Kim graduated from Seoul National University where he read German Literature and Cultural Anthropology for his first degrees before he obtained M.Litt. and D.Phil. degrees in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford. He had taught anthropology at Seoul National University until retirement in 2012. During the past 35 years of his academic life, he held various positions including President of Korean Society for Cultural Anthropology, Director of Center for Social Sciences at SNU, Director of Institute of Cross-cultural Studies, Director of Institute of China at SNU, etc. Specialized in the fields of China and Korea, he has published numerous ethnographic monographs and articles on China and Korea mainly focusing on such theoretical issues as politics of culture, history, and religion. Currently he is Professor Emeritus at S.N.U. as well as Yongje Distinguished Professor at Yonsei University, and serves as a member of the Presidential Committee of Cultural Enrichment and Prosperity. His publication includes Chinese Peasant in Revolution and Reform, Everyday Life World of the Chinese, The World of Yangban, the Scholar-Gentry of Korea, Politics of Culture and Local Power Structure: Andong and Andong Kim, and Re-orienting Cuisine: East Asian Foodways in the Twenty-First Century (forth coming).
