“Buddhist painting” refers to paintings that illustrate the teachings of Buddha, and these appear in various forms, including hanging scrolls and illuminated sutra manuscripts. Today’s talk will provide a short history of Korean Buddhist painting, focusing on major examples from the Unified Silla period (676-918) to the Joseon period (1392-1910).
