Intern Abroad

  1. Program (Korea-related degree offered) : Citizens’ Alliance for North Korean Human Rights (NKHR)
    • Programs Remarks - Citizens’ Alliance for North Korean Human Rights was established in 1996 and is a non-profit, non-partisan NGO devoted to raising awareness on human rights violations in North Korea both domestically and abroad through publications, conferences, and campaigns. It also protects the lives and human rights of North Korean refugees in third countries and assists North Korean children and youth through various resettlement programs in South Korea.
  2. Program (Korea-related degree offered) : Daily NK
    • Programs Remarks - IIP interns will have the opportunity to learn about North Korean history, society, politics and the economy. IIP interns also have opportunity to personally interview North Korean defectors and engage in diverse journalistic, educational, research and translation experiences. IIP candidates should have a prior understanding of North-South Korean relations and world politics as well as interest in journalism and writing.

  1. Program (Korea-related degree offered) : Major in East Asian Studies
    • Programs Remarks - The Department of East Asian Studies provides undergraduate concentrators with a broad-ranging knowledge of the languages and cultures of China, Japan, and Korea.
  2. Program (Korea-related degree offered) : East Asian Studies Program
    • Programs Remarks - The East Asian Studies Program Certificate is administered by the East Asian Studies Program Coordinator.
  3. Program (Korea-related degree offered) : Language and Culture Certificate in Korean
    • Programs Remarks - A student majoring in a department other than East Asian studies may earn a certificate in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean by completing 7 language courses, 3 or more of which must be beyond the 2nd-year level, and 1 or more East Asian studies or cognate courses.
  4. Program (Korea-related degree offered) : Korean Language Program
    • Programs Remarks - A student majoring in a department other than East Asian studies may earn a certificate in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean by completing 7 language courses, 3 or more of which must be beyond the 2nd-year level, and 1 or more East Asian studies or cognate courses.

      • Courses Remarks - Offers a broad historical examination of Korean cinema from both sides of the DMZ.
    2. Korea-related Courses : HIS 208/EAS 208East Asia since 1800
      • Courses Remarks - This course is an introduction to the history of modern East Asia.
    3. Korea-related Courses : HUM 234/EAS 234/COM 234East Asian Humanities II: Traditions and Transformations
      • Courses Remarks - This course begins roughly around the fourteenth century and covers the arts, history, music, literature, popular culture, film and media in transnational China, Japan, and Korea up to the contemporary period.

      • Courses Remarks - Translation is at the core of our engagement with China, Japan, and Korea.

    • Programs Remarks - The Department of East Asian Studies offers doctoral (Ph. D.) programs in Chinese and Japanese history and literature, Korean history, Korean cultural studies, and in the trans-national social and cultural study of contemporary East Asia.
