    • Programs Remarks - Asian Studies is an interdisciplinary major that brings together courses about Asia from a variety of departments and disciplines.
  2. Program (Korea-related degree offered) : Minor in Asian Studies
    • Programs Remarks - A minor in Asian Studies requires the completion of five or more courses, including: a) two courses in an Asian language; b) one integrative or comparative course in Asian Studies (from the above list 2); and c) two elective courses in Asian Studies (from the above list 3). No comprehensive exam is required.

    3. Korea-related Courses : ASIA 202 3000 Years of East Asian Poetry
      • Courses Remarks - From the ancient Chinese “Book of Songs,” to Bash ’s haiku and the creative work of young poets today writing in colloquial Mandarin, Japanese, and Korean, this course introduces students to the major forms, genres, themes, and developmental history of East Asian poetry. The course approaches poetry not only as something to be contemplated alone in a study, but also as a vital social tool, an integral part of traditional performance, and as something to be recited or sung at a party. Taught in English.
    4. Korea-related Courses : ASIA 218 Violence, Honor, and Masculinity in East Asian Literature and Film
      • Courses Remarks - This course considers the implications of taking pleasure in reading/watching violence as well as East Asian notions of honor and martial virtue and their place in the modern day. From the “Biographies of the Assassins” and “Tale of the Heike,” to “the sick man of Asia,” Kurosawa, and Bruce Lee, this course explores literary and cinematic depictions of chivalry, violence, and masculinity to complicate and enrich our understanding of the East Asian body under duress. All readings are in English translation.
