    • Programs Remarks - The Department offers instruction in the languages, literatures, linguistics and cultures of China, Japan, Korea, Tibet, South Asia and Southeast Asia. This includes survey courses in traditional and modern Chinese and Japanese literature, Chinese, Japanese and Korean civilization, courses in philosophy, film and history of East Asia, courses in literatures and cultures of South and Southeast Asia, and a sequence of courses on Buddhism in China, India, Japan, and Tibet.
    1. Korea-related Courses : ASIAN 254: Spectacular History of Korea
      • Courses Remarks - This course introduces students to the history of modern and contemporary Korea through events.
    2. Korea-related Courses : ASIAN 235: Introduction to Asian Studies
      • Courses Remarks - This course forms an interdisciplinary gateway to the study of Asian cultures. It introduces students to the peoples and the cultures of Asia — their languages, religious, philosophies, politics, artistic traditions, and ways of life. It also invites students to tease out the historical connections that unite countries as culturally distinct as China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, and India.
    3. Korea-related Courses : ASIAN 458: Film Culture in Korea
      • Courses Remarks - This class offers a survey of the films produced during the last hundred years in South Korea.

Study Abroad

    • Programs Remarks - This unique university program introduces students to Korea in its Asian and global setting.
  2. Program (Korea-related degree offered) : Ewha Woman's University
    • Programs Remarks - The Nam Center for Korean Studies offers U-M students the opportunity to enhance their language skills in Korean through participation in language programs overseas.

Graduate

  1. Program (Korea-related degree offered) : Ph.D. Program in Asian Languages and Cultures
    • Programs Remarks - Students accepted into the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures may craft and pursue programs of graduate study in fields such as Asian film, Chinese history, Korean culture, Japanese literature, Javanese cultural studies, Buddhist studies or any other combination of geographical area and academic discipline for which there is sufficient faculty availability and interest.
